Grief and loss

Grief is the reaction that we have to a significant loss in our lives. We usually associate it with bereavement, that is, the death of someone, but it can be triggered by all sorts of losses. And it affects us emotionally, it affects the way we think, it can affect our behaviors, and it can affect the way we interact socially. Not everyone grieves the same way and there is no particular order in which one may experience these emotions.

We all experience many losses throughout our lives. The most obvious of these are the losses of close relationships- our parents, perhaps a partner in a breakup or divorce, friends, or other family members.

Support is very important in helping one move through grief. Sharing your story with someone can help ease your pain, process complex feelings you may be experiencing, and aid in feeling less alone.
