Depression

The term depression has become a common word within our terminology. However, what does depression truly mean? The answer to this question is multifactorial, and it is often simpler to describe depression in a more generalist way, but there are different types of depression. Complicating matters, there are different degrees of depression and symptoms can vary from person to person.

Some common signs and symptoms of depression:

  • Sadness, hopelessness

  • Lack of enjoyment in normal activities

  • Regular crying

  • Sleeping difficulties

  • Not taking care of important matters like paying your bills, going to work, or attending classes

  • Thoughts or attempts at suicide

How does counselling help with depression?

When youโ€™re depressed it can seem almost impossible to imagine that something can be done to help you. But, through counselling you can better identify negative beliefs and behaviors, and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Counselling can help with exploring issues that contribute to your depression and guide your ability to navigate lifeโ€™s stressors. Regain a sense of satisfaction and control in your life and help ease depression symptoms, such as hopelessness and anger.
